Seeing how the events of this week resulted in what I can only describe as the cliched “emotional roller coaster” I decided that probably both the best and worst thing for me to do for Friday was a night of heavy drinking.

My roommate recently brought home a jug of beer (seen below) from Bierkraft, a local importer/brewer in Park Slope.

The premise of the jug, called a growler in technical terms, is simple. They brew their own beer. You purchase a growler ($4.00 deposit). They fill it with 64 ounces of sweet, sweet brew as many times as you bring the growler to the store. The brews themselves are a pretty fair price and change often, so there’s always a good variety to choose from. Everybody wins!!

I walked in Friday after work and, new growler in hand, scanned the list of offerings for something special, something to make the planned night of drinking and pontificating with my roommate memorable. But alas, Ales, Pilsners, IPAs; nothing was jumping out at me as a sure bet when suddenly I saw it… Hoptimus Prime.

It was as if Bierkraft had brewed this beer with overgrown nerds like me in mind!! (In fact, I’m sure this is definitely what happened.)

64 ounces later I dozed off in front of yet another episode of bootlegged DS9, clothes still on, drool pooling neatly on the pillow, happy this week was over and that the next held significantly better prospects.
